Researchers have uncovered why the Sun's outer atmosphere is millions of degrees hotter than its surface. Using Cryo-NIRSP telescope, they detected tiny torsional Alfvén waves twisting through the Sun's magnetic field. Alfvén waves are magnetic disturbances that carry energy through plasma. These constant waves occurring outwards continuously power the Sun's outer atmosphere, researchers stated.
