Researchers build first AI tool that can identify individual birds

Researchers have built an AI model capable of telling individual birds apart. The study involved training AI to recognise images of individual birds in wild populations of great tits and sociable weavers, and captive zebra finches population. When tested alongside images of individuals they hadn't seen before, the models showed 90% accuracy for wild species and 87% for captive finches.
