Researchers create 'AI scientist' that designs, runs its own experiments

Swedish researchers have developed an "AI scientist" capable of running the full scientific process with minimal human input. Combining LLMs, databases and physical laboratory robotics, the system generates hypotheses, designs experiments and analyses results. It analysed 60,000 relations involving a yeast species and generated 2,000 testable predictions about how nutrients impact cell growth.
