Researchers discover rare chlorophyll-free plant in Thailand

Researchers in Thailand found Thismia daemona, a new leafless plant lacking chlorophyll. Described in August 2026, the "devil flower" survives via underground fungi instead of photosynthesis. Located in Thong Pha Phum National Park, the critically endangered species has under 50 individuals and is heavily threatened by tourist foot traffic disrupting its fragile microhabitat.
