Richard Nixon is the only President in US history to resign from office. The 37th US President resigned on August 9, 1974, amid impeachment proceedings against him for his involvement in the Watergate scandal. Following Nixon's resignation, the then VP Gerald Ford was sworn in as the 38th President of the US in the East Room of the White House.
