The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that the "right to have unobstructed and disabled friendly footpaths is guaranteed under Article 21" of the Indian constitution. "Safety of pedestrians is of utmost importance," the apex court said while directing states and Union Territories to submit a policy on ensuring disabled-friendly footpaths within two months. Article 21 covers Right to life.
