RSS' national publicity head Sunil Ambekar said the organisation supports the idea of a caste census for providing aid and welfare but doesn't support it being misused to "divide society". He added, "Democracy requires representation, but politics shouldn't pit one community against another." Ambekar further said that RSS' approach to caste is through social harmony rather than confrontation.
