Rural India spends 4% on tobacco, 2.5% on education: Report

Rural India's Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) reveals alarming spending patterns, with households allocating just 2.5% of consumption to education but 4% to tobacco products, mainly gutkha. Tobacco use has surged 58% per capita in rural areas over the past decade, with gutkha consumption rising six-fold to 30.4% of households.
