Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses' can be imported in India as 1988 ban order 'untraceable'

The ban on the import of Salman Rushdie's controversial book 'The Satanic Verses' to India has effectively been lifted after the Delhi High Court said the government couldn't produce the 1988 ban order. HC said it has to be assumed the order "doesn't exist". The PM Rajiv Gandhi-led government imposed the ban after many Muslims viewed the book as blasphemous.
