Russia frees ex-US Marine Robert Gilman on humanitarian grounds

Russia has released ex-US Marine and English teacher Robert Gilman, who spent over four years in prison, on "humanitarian grounds" amid his deteriorating health. Reports said Gilman was gravely ill and at risk of dying. He was detained in 2022 and initially sentenced to three-and-a-half years for assaulting a police officer, but his sentence was later extended over multiple charges.
