Russia’s bird population is in "serious danger" due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, scientists said. Migratory birds are unable to use their usual routes through Iran because of military activity involving aircraft, bombs and missiles. Past studies after the 1991 Gulf War found that 20,000-30,000 seabirds died due to oil spills contaminating coastal habitats.
