Russian President Vladimir Putin's aide, Sergei Lavrov, said that Russia will fully back China in the event of possible escalation in Taiwan Strait. He noted that the procedure for such situations is outlined in 'Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation' with China, signed on July 16, 2001. He added, "One of the basic principles of that document is mutual support."
