A Russian special forces officer ordered an air strike on himself after he was surrounded by Islamic State fighters during an operation to retake Syria's Palmyra. Officials revealed that the officer was supposed to track IS facilities and send the coordinates. "The officer died as a hero, calling a strike on to himself after he was compromised," they added.
