S Africa sees rise in COVID reinfections due to Omicron: Scientist

South Africa is witnessing an increase in COVID-19 reinfections due to the Omicron variant, a scientist studying the Omicron outbreak said. The scientist said, "Previous infection used to protect against Delta but now with Omicron that doesn't seem to be the case." The scientist, however, added that symptoms for reinfected patients and those infected after vaccination appear to be mild.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of RBI's ex-Governor Shaktikanta Das as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with effect from the day Das assumes office. "His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier," an order said. Das retired as RBI Governor in December 2024.

$1.5 billion stolen from exchange Bybit in biggest crypto theft in history

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit revealed on Friday that a "sophisticated attack" resulted in the theft of Ethereum (ETH) from one of its offline wallets. It resulted in a loss of almost $1.5 billion, which is estimated to be the biggest-ever crypto theft in history. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou said that the matter is being investigated.
