South Korea's ex-President Chun Doo-hwan was given an eight-month suspended jail sentence in a defamation case by a South Korean court on Monday. The sentence was suspended for two years. The 89-year-old committed the defamation against activist Cho Chul-hyun after calling him a "despicable liar" for testifying that government helicopters had fired on civilians during a protest in 1980.
