Sacred groves emerge as lifeline for giant trees in Western Ghats

Researchers from the Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF), Pune, found that giant trees in community-managed sacred groves are far better at forest regeneration than those in human settlements. These culturally protected areas attract fruit-eating birds that disperse seeds, creating a vibrant ecosystem that outshines even the largest trees in urban or agricultural areas.
