Samples of India's only active mud volcano 23 million years old

The samples collected from India's only active mud volcano in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been dated to the Oligocene age, Deputy Director General at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) said. The Oligocene age ended 23 million years ago. The volcano located on Baratang Island erupted on October 2, after being dormant for two decades.
