An European Union (EU) report placed Samsung Electronics second in terms of research and development (R&D) spending last year. The company, which had the top spot for the same in 2017, was second to Google. While Samsung had spent $16.4 billion in 2018, which was up 10% from a year earlier, Google spent nearly $20.3 billion on R&D.
