Heavy Sankranti travel brought the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway to a standstill on Sunday as lakhs of people left Hyderabad for their native places, stretching a normal 4 to 5-hour journey to 9 hours. Despite extra police deployment, temporary toll relaxations, diversions, and special trains and buses, officials said the rush towards Vijayawada is likely to continue until January 13.
