Satellite launches pollute atmosphere, reduces sunlight on Earth: Study

A new study found rocket and satellite launches generate black carbon, or soot, that accumulates in the upper atmosphere and lingers far longer than on Earth. Researchers said the pollution reduces sunlight reaching Earth, while launches also release ozone-degrading chemicals like chlorine. They said the space industry could release nearly 870 tonnes of soot annually into the atmosphere by 2029.
