A US intelligence report has found that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Khashoggi, who was a critic of Salman's policies, was killed and dismembered in the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul. The US announced sanctions on dozens of Saudis but not the prince himself. Saudi called the report "false".
