While upholding a decree of divorce, the Supreme Court has asked a judicial officer to pay ₹50 lakh as permanent alimony to his estranged wife. The Court held that the wife, presently not engaged in legal practice, is entitled to maintain a standard of living broadly commensurate with what she enjoyed during the subsistence of the marriage.
