The Supreme Court has issued directions for the conservation of the Great Indian Bustard (GIB), also called 'Godawan', the state bird of Rajasthan. GIB is one of the heaviest flying birds in the world, a flagship species of the arid and semi-arid grasslands of the Indian subcontinent, and a majestic, long-legged bird that symbolises the health of the fragile grassland ecosystem.
