The Supreme Court has reduced the sentence of the accused persons under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, from life imprisonment to twenty years. The accused persons were in their mid-twenties. The Court observed that minimum punishment delineated under the said Section is twenty years, which may extend to imprisonment for the remainder of their natural life.
