The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Rajasthan High Court's order in favour of criminalising and banning Santhara, a Jain ritual of fasting unto death. Last week, a Jain body had moved the apex court challenging the High Court's order, and claiming that their religious practice of Santhara was a "vow taken to purify the soul."
