Scallops, known as a seafood delicacy, can have up to 200 eyes that function like a telescope, using layered mirrors to focus light unlike most animal eyes which have lenses, an Israel-based study has revealed. Further, the mirrors tiled with square crystals, form images on a double-layered retina, to separately focus both peripheral and central fields of view, said researchers.
