Scientist and activist Kára McCullough, who works as a radiochemist with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that regulates nuclear plants, has been crowned Miss USA 2017. Kára, who also runs a community outreach program called Science Exploration for Kids, will represent USA at Miss Universe. The runner-up at the pageant was Chhavi Verg, an Indian-born, Hindi and Spanish-speaking business student.
