Researchers at University of Sharjah have developed a new earthquake damper that works without electricity. Designed by professor Moussa Leblouba, the device uses steel balls, rods and friction to absorb vibration energy during earthquakes. Early tests showed it could reduce shaking by around 14%. Scientists believe the low-cost system may help protect buildings, bridges and equipment from damage.
