Scientists detect gravitational signal from unknown celestial body
short by Ashley Paul / on Saturday, 6 April, 2024
Scientists have detected a gravitational-wave signal from an unknown celestial body. They believe the signal is from the collision of what's most likely a neutron star with a compact object that's 2.5-4.5 times our Sun's mass. The signal, called GW230529, is intriguing as the object's mass falls within a possible mass-gap between heaviest-known neutron stars and the lightest black holes.
