Scientists discover protein that silences less-efficient DNA genes
short by Sourav Kumar / on Thursday, 9 April, 2026
Scientists at Kyoto University have discovered DHX29, a protein that helps cells detect inefficient DNA genetic instructions and silences them. While some DNA units make mRNA molecules more stable and easier for cells to translate into proteins, others result in weaker translation. These non-efficient units are silenced by DHX29 protein after its interaction with the 80S ribosome.
