Scientists have discovered an unknown organelle inside our cells, which they have dubbed "hemifusome". The organelle's main function is to sort, recycle and discard important cargo within itself, they stated. "The hemifusome is like a loading dock where [vesicles] connect and transfer cargo. It’s a step in the process we didn't know existed," one of the researchers said.
