Scientists explain the source of methane in oceans

US-based scientists have uncovered the mechanism behind 'marine methane paradox', which involves searching the origin of methane in ocean's surface waters, given that most of the methane-producing microbes cannot survive in oxygen-rich waters. Scientists revealed the paradox could be explained by bacterial degradation of dissolved organic matter in the upper ocean, creating methane as a byproduct.
