Scientists find 5.5 million bees hiding underground in New York

Scientists at Cornell University have discovered an underground colony of nearly 5.5 million ground-nesting bees beneath a cemetery in Ithaca, New York. Spread across just 1.5 acres, the bees were identified as Andrena regularis, or "regular mining bees." These harmless native pollinators nest in underground soil, strengthening the idea that cemeteries can act as crucial refuges for biodiversity.
