Scientists have found that Earth's atmosphere extends far enough for trace gases to reach the Moon. Analysis of Apollo lunar soil samples revealed water, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, helium, and argon, suggesting Earth's geocorona contributes particles over time. This challenges previous assumptions about Earth-Moon separation and may provide resources for future lunar bases.
