Scientists find Milky Way's edge 40,000 light yrs away from centre
short by Sourav Kumar / on Wednesday, 29 April, 2026
Scientists at the University of Malta have identified the Milky Way’s edge for the first time using stellar “age mapping,” analysing ages of over one lakh bright giant stars. The study found stars' age decrease with distance from the centre, but reverse around 35,000-40,000 light-years. Beyond this region, stars grow older again, confirming the boundary of our galaxy’s outer limits.
