Scientists find molecules that can protect vision cells
short by Sunny Sharma / on Friday, 3 April, 2026
Researchers identified molecules that can protect the eye's cone photoreceptors from degeneration, a major cause of vision loss. They tested over 2,700 compounds across 20,000 human retinal organoids and found two kinase inhibitors that consistently showed strong protective effects, keeping the cells alive for extended periods. Cone cells play a vital role in recognising faces and seeing colour.
