Germany-based scientists have identified a molecule that helps in the chemical reaction between the sperm and the egg to form an embryo. The molecule facilitates an ion exchange in the sperm cell and turns it alkaline. The changed pH value allows neighbouring calcium ions to enter sperm tails, which guide the sperm to the egg, said researchers.
