Scientists identify protein that helps Parkinson’s spread in brain

Scientists at Pennsylvania University identified a protein called GPNMB, that may help Parkinson's disease spread through the brain, accelerating brain cell damage. As the disease reaches more brain regions, symptoms such as tremors and balance problems worsen. Researchers suggest blocking the protein with monoclonal antibodies could lead to treatments that slow the progression of the disease.
