Scientists make 3D printer nozzle from female mosquito proboscis
short by Neeraja Nath / on Saturday, 6 December, 2025
Canadian researchers developed a high-resolution 3D printer nozzle from a female Egyptian mosquito's (Aedes aegypti) proboscis. They combined proboscis and plastic tip with UV-curable resin and used bioinks to create microstructures like honeycombs, maple leaves and bioscaffolds encapsulating cancer and red-blood cells. The 3D necroprinter achieved a resolution ranging from 18 to 22 microns.
