Iron-rich rocks near ancient lake sites on Mars are the best place to seek fossil evidence of life which likely existed about four billion years ago, researchers have suggested. Scientists said sedimentary rocks made of compacted clay are most likely to contain fossils as these rocks are rich in iron and a mineral called silica, which helps preserve fossils.
