Scientists to teach dogs, mice to breathe underwater

Russia-based scientists plan to conduct 'liquid breathing' tests on dogs, mice and hamsters. Liquid breathing involves using biomedical technology to ventilate the lungs of air-breathing organisms with an oxygen-rich liquid. If successful, the technology will be tested on humans for medical research and military applications involving emergency evacuation of submarine crews from deep water.
