Scientists use pigeons to train AI for cancer detection

Scientists in the US are reportedly studying pigeons' visual abilities to help develop AI tools for earlier cancer detection and fewer missed abnormalities in medical scans. Researchers led by Dr Gregory DiGirolamo trained six pigeons to watch short CT scan videos and identify lung nodules. The birds learned the task via food-reward training and generalised to scans they hadn't seen.
