Sexual assault may change a woman's brain, study finds

Women who develop PTSD after being sexually assaulted may experience a change in their brain connectivity, according to a study presented at ECNP 2025 Congress in Amsterdam. On comparing brain images, it was found that "communication between the amygdala and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex- two key regions for managing fear and emotions- was almost completely lost", researchers stated.
