At an event marking 50 years of Emergency, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gifted a copy of the Indian constitution to a woman who, with her three children, was jailed during Emergency. Shah stated that fight against Emergency "was won because no one in this country can tolerate dictatorship." Former PM Indira Gandhi had imposed Emergency on June 25, 1975.
