Freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh, who assassinated former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab Michael O'Dwyer in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was hanged by the British on July 31, 1940. Singh, who was an eyewitness to the massacre, shot O’Dwyer twice at a meeting in London's Caxton Hall on March 13, 1940.
