Shells of Dungeness crabs dissolving due to ocean acidification: Study

A US government-funded study has found that ocean acidification is linked to the dissolution and damage of Dungeness crabs' shells observed along the US west coast. "If these larval crabs need to divert energy to repair their exoskeletons... the percentage that makes it to adulthood will... likely go down in the long-term," said the study's lead author Nina Bednarsek.
