Dr Shubha Venkatesha Iyengar, a veteran scientist who developed the Drishti visibility measuring system and the aviation weather observation system, has been honoured with Padma Shri. The indigenous system, which helps pilots during low visibility, is being used in 171 airports and air bases. She had also contributed to India's missile and Ramjet-Scramjet engines programmes.
