Sikkim asks schools to introduce 11 local languages in curriculum

The Sikkim government has asked all schools in state to introduce 11 local languages, an education department official said. Students will be given an option to choose one of the 11 as their second language. At present, state-run schools offer Bhutia, Nepali, Lepcha and Limbu, but now all schools will also teach Tamang, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Mukhia, Rai and Newar.
