To combat increasing SIM swap fraud, TRAI has introduced new guidelines for mobile number portability (MNP). Effective July 1, users replacing their SIM cards due to theft or damage cannot port their number to a new SIM within 7 days. TRAI aims to prevent fraudulent SIM swaps by enhancing security measures and delaying unique porting codes (UPC).
