Sindhutai Sapkal was a Padma Shri awardee who established Sindhutai Sapkal Foundation and offered shelter to over a thousand needy, neglected children. Her daughter Mamata Sapakal recounted that during Sindhutai's struggling days, she prepared flatbread using flour left over from last rites of a deceased person. "[She] baked it on the fire, which was still consuming dead body," Mamata said.
